Blood carboxyhemoglobin level and platelets: a correlation study.

چکیده
The high level of air pollution is an important problem. One of these major pollutants is carbon monoxide (CO), which can block normal physiology. Hematologic alteration is another important side effect of exposure to CO. Adverse effects on red blood cells, formation of nonfunctional hemoglobin called carboxyhemoglobin (COHb), have been well documented. The effect of CO on platelets is not well documented. Therefore, the correlation between the level of blood COHb and the platelet count was evaluated in 28 subjects exposed to CO. There is no statistical significance; however, decreased platelet count, platelet distribution width, and plateletcrit, and an increase in blood COHb were observed.

End-tidal Carbon Dioxide Measurements in Unintentional Non-Fire-Related Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Background: Poisoning with carbon monoxide occurs occasionally worldwide, and the gold diagnostic standard is to measure carboxyhemoglobin level in the blood. This study investigated the correlation between carboxyhemoglobin and the end-tidal carbon dioxide levels in 50 patients with carbon monoxide poisoning. Methods: We recruited 50 volunteer patients who had been admitted to the Emergency S...
متن کاملEarly graft function and carboxyhemoglobin level in liver transplanted patients.
INTRODUCTION Heme-Oxygenase-1 catalyzes hemoglobin into bilirubin, iron, and carbon monoxide, a well known vasodilator. Heme-Oxygenase-1 expression and carbon monoxide production as measured by blood carboxyhemoglobin levels, increase in end stage liver disease patients. We hypothesized that there may be a correlation between carboxyhemoglobin level and early graft function in patients undergoi...

Introduction: Existing literatures indicate that occupational exposure to formaldehyde may decrease blood platelets. In this study, the influences of occupational exposure to formaldehyde on the number of blood plateletsand clinical symptoms were studied while determining the occupational exposure of employees of a wood industry to formaldehyde. .Material and Method: In a case study, the oc...
متن کاملNon-invasive Estimation of Blood Oxyhemoglobin and Carboxyhemoglobin Saturations Using Cumulant Based Forward Model
This paper aims to study the feasibility of using optical reflectance spectroscopy and Cumulant based forward model (CM) for non-invasive investigation of differences in mean blood oxyhemoglobin (SmO2) and carboxyhemoglobin saturations (SmCO) amongst the participated smoking and nonsmoking recruits, and the effects of different smoking characteristics of smokers on the predicted SmCO level. The...

The risk of leukemia and other radiation oriented diseases for astronauts increases with exposure to cosmic radiation. During the space missions, the blood and immune system change and the bones are affected by osteoporosis. In this research, a model, based on the human blood system, is presented for the study of the microgravity and the space radiation effects on the blood cells. This model is...
